the KIN halo

So today, other than checking the KIN RIP website (not so funny..) I read the article from Joe Wilcox, where he connects the KIN misadventure with Windows Phone 7.  Two comments worth pondering are:

  • the last 12 months … the mobile market is consolidating around three mobile platforms: Android, BlackBerry OS and iOS

  • Windows 7 is everything Vista should have been and wasn’t. But Microsoft could take three years because of monopoly. …  There is no Microsoft monopoly in mobile.

OK, so it will be uphill for Microsoft, no surprises there.

My opinion is that Microsoft won’t be able to succeed alone in this battle; if so it is really unclear where they are placing their bets (OEM, carriers, developers?) but what it is sure is that this KIN story has generated a negative perception on Microsoft ability to be successful, and it will impact all of the 3 audiences who would have considered WP7.
